We are delighted to introduce Meliora: International Journal of Student Sustainability Research! The term Meliora is a Latin derivative meaning "for the pursuit of the better" and to us, that is exactly what sustainability research is all about and forms the founding ethos of this Journal.
This new international, open access, student–led research Journal is the first of its kind in the UK. Solely featuring student research papers, the journal will focus on sustainability in all its nuances –from healthcare to the economy, environment to population and everything in between.
The Journal is run primarily by students, for students. It has been developed and supported by an interdisciplinary team of staff and students across the university and the world including an International Academic Advisory Board, University of Southampton Library, and the University of Southampton Students' Union. We would like to thank Adam Turner, whose technical assistance has been invaluable and has enabled us to publish the journal.
This Journal has been designed with student engagement at its heart and specifically aims to give University students the opportunity to enhance their professional and academic profiles by, for example, having their final–year project published in an academic peer–reviewed journal, or gaining membership of the Editorial Board.
For our launch issue, we invited presenters from our successful 2016 and 2017 Symposia to submit their work for consideration for publication in a Symposium Special Launch Edition of the Journal. Going forward, we will strive to include high quality sustainability research, reviews, editorials and commentary pieces from any undergraduate and postgraduate taught student from around the world. The articles you will see in the journal have all undergone a rigorous double–blind peer reviewed process and are just a taste of fantastic student–led research currently happening all over the UK and the world!
As we plough through the 21st Century and come ever closer to realising the Sustainable Development Goals put forward by the United Nations, we hope that this journal will continue to grow in both size and scope. We welcome all undergraduate and postgraduate taught students from across the world to submit their research to us so that we can continue to showcase student contributions to solving the big challenges of today.
If you wish to learn more about the journal or get involved with the Editorial Board or Academic Panel, please feel free to contact us on email@example.com – we would love to hear from you!
